GJEPC Delegation Explores Romania’s Jewellery Retail Landscape

As part of GJEPC’s wider Eastern Europe trade mission spanning Poland, Romania, and Serbia, a GJEPC delegation undertook a comprehensive market study tour at Băneasa Shopping City on 21 May 2026, with support from the Embassy of India in Romania.
The visit took place against the backdrop of Romania’s gem and jewellery imports reaching nearly US$579 million in 2024, with India currently accounting for only 1.3% of the market, highlighting strong potential for future growth.
During the visit, the delegation also met HE Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania, to strengthen bilateral trade relations and explore opportunities to enhance Indian gem and jewellery exports across Eastern Europe.
A detailed presentation by Ms. Andreea, Senior Commercial Officer, provided valuable insights into Romania’s jewellery retail sector, including consumer buying patterns, sourcing trends, retail dynamics, and emerging opportunities for Indian exporters. The session formed an important part of the delegation’s retail market research programme in Bucharest.
The delegation studied premium jewellery retail formats and luxury brand positioning while gaining a better understanding of local preferences for 14k and 18k white and rose gold jewellery, diamond jewellery collections, and modern retail concepts.
Led by Mital Doshi, Convenor – BITC, GJEPC, the delegation also discussed import procedures, regional distribution networks, and product customisation strategies suited to Eastern European markets.
As part of the market tour, the delegation reviewed several leading jewellery and luxury retail brands, including Teilor, Sabrini, Kultho, Cellini, Oxette, Damiani, Chopard, and Freywille, along with other international brands operating within the shopping destination.
The initiative marks another important step in strengthening gem and jewellery trade relations between India and Romania while identifying new export opportunities for Indian companies in the Eastern European region.
