GJEPC Applauds Maharashtra’s Pioneering Gem & Jewellery Policy 2025 — A Major Milestone Achieved in Partnership with the State Government

In a historic development, the Government of Maharashtra has unveiled the Maharashtra State Gem & Jewellery Policy 2025, making it the first Indian state to introduce a dedicated framework for the gem and jewellery sector. The policy is set to attract investments worth ₹1 lakh crore and generate over 5 lakh jobs, positioning Maharashtra as a global hub for jewellery manufacturing, exports, and design innovation.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) has collaborated closely with the Department of Industries, Government of Maharashtra, over the past 18 months to help shape this forward-looking policy. Through extensive discussions, consultations, and industry feedback, GJEPC played a key role in ensuring the policy addresses the sector’s comprehensive needs — from manufacturing growth and infrastructure development to skill enhancement and export facilitation.

The policy aims to strengthen every link in the value chain — promoting ease of doing business, modernising manufacturing facilities, fostering innovation, and expanding skilling and training capabilities across the state.

Expressing his appreciation for the state’s visionary leadership, Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Chairman, GJEPC, stated:
“We are immensely grateful to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, for his leadership in launching India’s first State Gem & Jewellery Policy. This forward-thinking initiative will not only elevate Maharashtra’s standing as a premier jewellery manufacturing destination but will also drive excellence in skilling, technology advancement, and value creation.

With this policy, we anticipate a surge in investment, innovation, and employment opportunities — setting new global benchmarks for India’s gem and jewellery industry.”

The Maharashtra State Gem & Jewellery Policy 2025 is poised to boost the sector’s competitiveness, attract both domestic and global investors, and reaffirm Maharashtra’s position as the epicentre of India’s gem and jewellery economy.
