The government is considering mandating the marking of bullion and adding 56 gold hallmarking centers.

The government is thinking of expanding the area of necessary gold hallmarking by adding 56 new regions to the country’s existing network of 288 districts. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is working hard on this front.

On Thursday, August 17, the government will hold a conference with numerous stakeholders, including jewelers, associations, and the BIS, to consider the expansion of mandatory gold hallmarking. Following the conclusion of deliberations on Thursday, a notification may be issued.The mandatory labeling of bullion is also likely to be considered at the meeting.
