De Beers donates $50,000 to help those affected by wildfires in Canada.

De Beers announced a $50,000 donation to help with wildfire assistance in Canada’s Northwest Territories (NWT). This additional funding, which is designated for the United Way NWT Emergency Response Fund, comes on top of a $20,000 commitment made earlier this year.

The total amount of $70,000 demonstrates the company’s dedication to supporting the NWT’s wildfire relief efforts during this difficult year. The De Beers Group is also actively looking into other options for helping the impacted residents.

De Beers Group Managed Operations (Canada) Lead – Corporate Affairs Erik Madsen said: “Our thoughts go out to everyone who has been displaced from their homes and who has lost their homes and businesses during this historic wildfire season. Additionally, we are collaborating closely with the more than 40 members of the Gahcho Kué tribe who have left Hay River, Fort Smith, Enterprise, and Jean Marie River.

Gahcho Kué employs about 30% of people in Yellowknife, and the business is closely monitoring the situation there.
