UK Standards Body and CIBJO Sign a Cooperation Agreement

A new relationship between the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) and the Birmingham Assay Office (BAO) has been formed with the goal of advancing the international jewellery sector through technical cooperation. Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, and Doug Henry, CEO and assay master of the Birmingham Assay Office, signed it on June 23, 2023, in Birmingham.

The agreement, which represents a significant turning point for the sector, outlines a programme of collaboration that will concentrate on areas including information sharing, collaborative research, technical support, and efforts that support best practises, standardisation, and consumer protection.

According to Dr. Cavalieri, “Today’s agreement marks a significant forward step for our organisations and for the global jewellery industry as a whole.” “We look forward to collaborating closely with BAO to expand our knowledge base as a whole, to innovate, and to further raise industry standards.”

“This agreement with CIBJO represents a natural alignment of our goals and interests,” Henry continued. We are excited to set out on this adventure in order to safeguard customers and uphold the integrity of our sector.

Dr. Cavalieri and Henry spoke about a variety of topics during their meeting, including resource sharing, combining knowledge, consumer education initiatives, and combating unethical business practises. The seminar also emphasised the critical significance of cutting-edge technologies and the implementation of digital solutions in the processes of certification, testing, and hallmarking.
