De Beers Group’s Science & Technology division has launched SynthDetect 2, the latest version of its desktop diamond screening instrument, offering manufacturers, laboratories and retailers a faster, more automated and cost-effective solution for diamond screening.
The new system builds on the capabilities of the original SynthDetect and SynthDetect XL, which were introduced in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Both instruments gained industry acceptance for their technical screening capabilities and their ability to examine multiple diamonds in finished jewellery without requiring a probe.
With SynthDetect 2, the time needed to complete a full tray scan has been reduced from approximately 30 minutes to less than five minutes. The upgraded instrument also supports a broader range of diamonds and jewellery, while increased automation minimises the need for manual operator intervention.
Additional features, including automated reporting and software updates, are designed to simplify workflows and improve overall screening efficiency.
According to De Beers, SynthDetect 2 was developed in close consultation with industry participants, helping ensure that the instrument can be incorporated smoothly into existing operational processes.
