GJEPC Presents Industry Priorities at Export Promotion Mission Review Chaired by Hon’ble Commerce Minister

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) outlined the sector’s key policy priorities during the Export Promotion Mission (EPM) review meeting chaired by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, in New Delhi on 24 June 2026. The meeting brought together Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and industry associations to assess the progress of the mission. Ashish Borda, Convenor – PMBD, GJEPC, and Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC, represented the Council.

During the meeting, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) reviewed the implementation status of various schemes introduced under the EPM, outlined budget allocations, and encouraged EPCs to drive greater industry participation and boost exports.

GJEPC expressed its appreciation for the government’s initiatives to improve access to duty-free precious metals for exporters. The Council also welcomed the Geographical Indication (GI) registration of Kolkatti Jewellery and requested government support to promote the GI-recognised craft in international markets through the Export Promotion Mission.

The Council informed the Minister that gem and jewellery shipments valued at US$6.5 million, involving 18 exporters, are ready for dispatch to the United Kingdom following the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) from 15 July 2026. GJEPC also sought support under the EPM for its 2nd India-UK Buyer-Seller Meet, scheduled to be held in London on 7–8 July.

Among its additional recommendations, GJEPC urged the government to secure the inclusion of cut and polished diamonds and diamond-studded jewellery under the proposed India-US Bilateral Trade Agreement. It also requested the extension of the Interest Subvention Scheme to benefit micro and small exporters in the gem and jewellery sector.
