Botswana Celebrates 60 Years Through Diamond-Driven Global Expansion

The Botswana government has introduced a “60 Years of Diamond Leadership” campaign while also revealing diamond-studded medals for the World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026. The initiative reflects the country’s evolving strategy of moving beyond mining to create wider economic and cultural value by connecting diamonds with sports, tourism, and the creative sector.
The programme brings together De Beers Group, Debswana Diamond Company, and other stakeholders under the House of Botswana platform, with collaborations aimed at strengthening local polishing, jewellery manufacturing, and entrepreneurship.
Officials stated that key priorities will include provenance, downstream industry growth, and greater citizen involvement throughout the diamond value chain.
