World Environment Day: GJEPC pushes ‘Green Exhibitions’ with IIJS

At its flagship India International Jewellery Show (IIJS) exhibitions, one of the top two B2B trade shows in the world for the gem and jewelry industry, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) reaffirms its commitment to sustainability with green practices on World Environment Day.

With “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” as this year’s Environment Day theme, GJEPC emphasizes how its events actively improve the planet by lowering their carbon footprint and fostering a greener future.

GJEPC Chairman Kirit Bhansali commented on the initiatives, saying, “Sustainability is no longer a choice—it is an obligation.” At GJEPC, we are dedicated to making sustainability a fundamental part of every exhibition. Our objective is to encourage the industry to embrace more environmentally friendly methods and contribute to the cause of the planet. We collaborate with eco-friendly suppliers. We encourage stakeholders to adopt sustainable green practices. In order to improve the globe by lowering their carbon footprint and encouraging a cleaner future, we continuously measure and offset our carbon impact.

Leading the charge to incorporate green practices into every facet of event preparation and execution is GJEPC’s IIJS, India’s leading jewelry exhibition platform. With its reusable and modular booths, green energy, and digital solutions, GJEPC is leading the way in environmentally friendly event planning.

Key sustainability measures implemented at IIJS exhibitions include:

  • Modular & Reusable Exhibition Stalls: Built using eco-friendly materials, these reduce construction waste and carbon emissions.
  • 100% Renewable Energy Usage: The entire event is powered by green energy sources, significantly reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
  • ‘One Earth, An IIJS Initiative’ Tree Plantation Drive: Over 1 lakh trees have been planted, with one tree planted for every visitor who registers for IIJS.
  • Eco-Friendly Branding: Fabric banners and non-toxic inks replace traditional PVC flexes, minimising environmental harm.
  • Digital Badges: Use of digital badges and face recognition systems replaces plastic-based badges, increasing both sustainability and security.
  • Reusable Show Bags and Cutlery: Promoting a zero-waste approach in promotional material and cafeteria services.
  • Eco-Conscious Transport: Transitioning to electric buses and encouraging metro travel to reduce carbon emissions from commuting.
  • Sustainable Special Structures: Built with environmentally friendly, reusable materials.
  • Stakeholder Education: Awareness and education efforts on sustainable practices form a core part of the exhibition experience.

As GJEPC continues to innovate and lead by example, it urges stakeholders in the gem and jewellery industry to adopt sustainable practices and take an active role in environmental protection.
