Tanganite of 703 carats sets a world record.

The largest cut tanzanite in the world, a 703-carat blue tanzanite carving by artist Naomi Sarna, now holds the Guinness World Record.

In Hillsboro, Oregon, on March 9, the Rice Northwest Museum of Rocks & Minerals hosted the official “L’Heure Bleu” weigh-in.

Official witnesses for the weighing were gemstone experts Jessie English of J.S. English Appraisals and Madeline Saunders of Oregon Estate Jewelry. The results were validated and declared by Guinness World Records adjudicator Michael Empric.

Kim Vagner, the director of the museum, and Rice Museum Board President Gail Spann were present.

As the director of the board for the Rice Museum of Rocks & Minerals and a devoted supporter of this amazing “gem” in Hillsboro, I was thrilled to have Naomi Sarna join us on her journey with Guinness World Records, which was well-received by a large number of guests. Such skill is a blessing to have at our institution,” Spann remarked.
