Under the direction of the Ministry of Commerce and business, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held a highly productive interactive session for the diamond business. The ceremony was held in Surat on July 13, 2023, and honoured guests included Shri Piyush Goyal, the Hon’ble Minister of Commerce and Industry, and Smt. Darshanaben Jardosh, the Hon’ble Union Minister of States for Textile and Railways.
The GJEPC Regional Office in Surat organised the session, which brought together notable people and executives from the diamond industry, including both natural and lab-grown diamonds, as well as producers of diamond-studded jewellery.
The session served as a forum for meaningful debate and the exchange of ideas. The Hon’ble Ministers listened intently to the diamond industry representatives’ concerns and suggestions. The discussions covered a wide range of important problems, such as the equalisation charge, the MOOWR plan, Surat Special Economic Zone (SEZ) difficulties, and Customs-related issues.
The Hon’ble Ministers assured the industry of their commitment, promising to take immediate action to resolve the concerns raised during the session. They also emphasised the necessity of reflection within the business, advocating the adoption of ethical practises to ensure the diamond sector’s future growth and prosperity.
Over 100 industry experts attended the session, which drew an amazing turnout. The event’s success may be due to the insightful insights offered by guests as well as the Hon’ble Ministers’ attention to understanding the industry’s demands.
