The Successful Completion of the Coloured Stone Professional Programme is Celebrated by GSI

The Coloured Stone Professional Programme, the first advanced gemology programme offered by Gemological Science International (GSI), has been completed successfully.

Ms. Sunita Shekhawat, an accomplished Indian jewellery designer known for her intricate craftsmanship and revival of traditional meenakari techniques, and Dr. K.L Jain, President, Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, graced the valedictory event on June 16, 2023.

“It feels nostalgic to see students graduate from an institution like GSI, which provides students with the most up-to-date and detailed curriculum in an internationally designed facility,” says Ms. Sunita Shekhawat. “Students who use gemology as a foundation should incorporate Indian culture and art into their gemstone jewellery designs.”

GSI has made a significant contribution to the Gems and Jewellery Industry by providing quality education imparted by the subject’s leading faculty,” says Dr. K.L Jain. “International institutes like GSI have demonstrated that you can obtain the best education in gemology in India without having to travel abroad.”

The course’s goal was to provide students with advanced knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in the fast-paced world of gemstones. Students learned about gem identification, treatment identification, grading, provenance determination, valuation methodologies, and a special laboratory session where they got to work in a lab and with advanced instruments.

Ms Meenu Brijesh Vyas, an industry specialist, oversaw the programme, and her aim to provide students with a transformative learning experience has led to the course’s success.

“We have built a state-of-the-art educational facility in the world’s gemstone capital, where students get to learn and practically work on the largest and most recent coloured stone inventory using the most up-to-date identification and testing equipment,” explains Ramit Kapur, Managing Director of GSI India.

The graduation ceremony was followed by a lavish celebration dinner honouring the graduates for their accomplishment.

GSI‘s Coloured Stone Professional programme has raised the bar for gemology education in Jaipur, embracing students from all over India and offering a platform for ambitious gemologists to shine. The programme underscores Jaipur’s commitment to excellence and innovation in gemology education, as the city continues to be a global centre for coloured gemstones.
