According to Ahmed Bin Sulayem, head of the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), direct flights between Surat and Dubai will further increase trade between the manufacturing and trading centres.
At a roadshow in India, Bin Sulayem, who is also the executive chairman and CEO of DMCC, asserted that there was a strong business rationale for direct flights.
He is urging the government-owned low-cost carrier Flydubai to expand connections and launch a new service.”I am pushing Flydubai, and I’ll push harder even to have a direct flight to Surat because I see the business case for it,” he said to the Indian television channel CNBC-TV18.
According to him, the DDE is housed in the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, which has 3,700 Indian companies, many of which are in the diamond industry.
