GJEPC extends congratulations to Commerce Department officials on the milestone India–EU Free Trade Agreement

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) congratulated senior officials from the Department of Commerce on the successful completion of the landmark India–EU Free Trade Agreement, widely hailed as the “mother of all trade deals.”

On 29 January in New Delhi, Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC, met with Rajesh Agarwal, Commerce Secretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, along with Saket Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce. During the meeting, Ray commended the officials for their crucial leadership and sustained efforts in navigating the complex negotiations that led to the finalisation of the comprehensive trade agreement.

He recognised the active role played by the Commerce Department in advancing key discussions on market access, tariff restructuring, and trade facilitation, noting that these initiatives were vital in resolving long-standing challenges faced by Indian exporters and in strengthening the competitiveness of bilateral trade with the European Union.

The meeting also served as a platform to underline the strategic significance of the India–EU FTA for India’s export-driven sectors, particularly gems and jewellery. The agreement is expected to expand market access, simplify business operations, reinforce India’s integration into global value chains, and unlock fresh growth opportunities for exporters across diverse industries.
