Sri Lanka Unveils Rare ‘Star of Pure Land’ Sapphire

Sri Lanka has revealed a remarkable gemstone known as the Star of Pure Land, a natural purple star sapphire weighing an impressive 3,563 carats. Local gem authorities describe it as the largest purple star sapphire ever discovered.
The extraordinary stone was found near Ratnapura, Sri Lanka’s renowned gem-mining heartland, and confirmed following detailed gemological analysis. Under light, it exhibits a striking six-rayed star, an optical phenomenon caused by microscopic mineral inclusions within the sapphire.
The discovery has once again drawn global attention to Sri Lanka’s rich gem legacy and its enduring importance as a source of rare, high-value coloured gemstones for the international market.
