GIA Elevates Sriram Natarajan to Senior Vice President of Laboratory Operations

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has appointed Sriram ‘Ram’ Natarajan, former Managing Director of GIA India Laboratory Private Limited, as Senior Vice President of Laboratory Operations. Based at GIA’s global headquarters in Carlsbad, California, he assumed his new role in early August and now reports directly to GIA President and CEO, Pritesh Patel.

In this position, Natarajan will oversee the vision, strategy, and direction of GIA’s global laboratory operations, including diamond grading and jewellery services.

“Ram is a dynamic leader who understands both GIA’s mission and the needs of our clients,” said Patel. “His knowledge and leadership will be instrumental as we expand technologies, processes, and services to further strengthen our laboratory operations.”

Natarajan has been with GIA India since 2017, initially serving as Vice President of Laboratory Operations before being named Managing Director in 2020. During his tenure, he oversaw both laboratory and education functions in India, drawing on more than 30 years of international operational and leadership experience.

“It is a privilege to lead GIA’s global laboratories,” said Natarajan. “I am eager to collaborate with our teams and clients to continue delivering the quality and excellence that define GIA.”

GIA is expected to announce a new Managing Director for its India operations later this year.
