De Beers Highlights Sustainability and Community Progress in 2024 Report

De Beers Group has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, showcasing significant progress across climate action, conservation, community impact, and diamond traceability, reinforcing its commitment to responsibly sourced natural diamonds.

The company reported a 7% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2021, with renewable energy projects in South Africa and Botswana on track to power operations by 2026. It also advanced Scope 3 emission plans in partnership with 100 key suppliers, with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.

In 2024, De Beers contributed $2.9 billion in taxes and economic value, achieved record safety levels, and supported thousands of women and entrepreneurs through initiatives such as EntreprenHER, GirlEng, and Stanford SEED.

On the environmental front, the company oversaw 375,000 acres of protected land, relocated white rhinos, and collaborated on efforts to safeguard the Okavango Delta and the endangered African Penguin.

De Beers further enhanced transparency with its Tracr blockchain platform, which now records nearly three million diamonds. It also introduced ORIGIN – De Beers Group, a polished diamond programme offering blockchain-tracked diamonds with verified provenance and impact stories.

“As we continue to shape the future of natural diamonds, we want their journey to be as meaningful as their beauty,” said Sandrine Conseiller, CEO of Brands & Diamond Desirability. “Choosing a De Beers diamond not only celebrates life’s milestones but also supports the communities and ecosystems behind them.”
