The government has introduced revised guidelines for hallmarking gold coins:
- Gold coins with 999 and 995 purity produced by refiners or mints do not require hallmarking, as exempted under the order issued on January 15, 2020.
- Jewelers can manufacture 995 purity gold coins, but these must be hallmarked by authorized agencies, since they are considered as jewellery.
- Jewelers may also produce gold coins of 999 purity; however, due to the limitations of hallmarking centers, these will be certified and hallmarked only as 995 purity. These too will be treated as jewellery.
