India to Participate in Global Roundtable on Natural Diamond Promotion in Angola

Reaffirming its leadership in the global diamond industry, India—through the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)—will take part in a high-level ministerial roundtable on natural diamond promotion in Angola on 18 June.

The event, hosted by Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (MIREMPET) and chaired by Minister Diamantino Azevedo, will bring together top officials and representatives from major diamond-producing nations such as Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

GJEPC Vice Chairman Shaunak Parikh and Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray will represent India, underscoring the country’s pivotal role in the diamond supply chain—from sourcing and cutting to international trade. Their participation also highlights India’s proactive stance in steering the future of the natural diamond sector.

The roundtable aims to foster collaborative strategies to promote natural diamonds, with a strong focus on unified messaging around their uniqueness, natural origins, and socio-economic value to producing nations. This conversation comes at a critical time, as synthetic alternatives grow more prominent in the global market.

A key outcome of the summit will be the signing of the Luanda Agreement—a declaration of joint commitment by governments and industry leaders to uphold ethical practices, strengthen the natural diamond market, and ensure long-term community benefits.

India’s involvement reflects not only its position as the world’s leading diamond polishing hub but also its dedication to sustainability, traceability, and equitable growth across the diamond value chain. With a membership base of over 10,700, GJEPC remains a vital connector between India’s gem and jewellery sector and the global industry.
