The All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), the leading organization representing India’s domestic gem and jewellery sector, expresses its strong backing for Operation Sindoor and, in accordance with national interests, urges India’s gems and jewellery industry to halt all business dealings with Turkey and Azerbaijan.
This firm decision follows Turkey’s public endorsement of Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror incident, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Indian citizens. Such a position has raised significant concerns regarding national security and the moral direction of trade relations.
Mr. Rajesh Rokde, Chairman – GJC, stated: “The Indian gem and jewellery industry stands as one in support of our nation. It is essential for our sector to set a powerful example by placing the country above commercial interests. We urge every jeweller, manufacturer, trader, and wholesaler to suspend all transactions with Turkey and Azerbaijan. This united front demonstrates our steadfast commitment to national interests and our solidarity during Operation Sindoor. By ceasing trade, we convey a clear message of unity and determination, reinforcing our industry’s role as a source of national pride. Let us come together as an industry to uphold these principles, showcasing our strength and loyalty to India’s honour and security.”
Mr. Avinash Gupta, Vice Chairman – GJC, remarked: “Trade encompasses more than just profit – it also involves principles. By resolutely stopping transactions with Turkey and Azerbaijan, we affirm that our dedication to the nation outweighs commercial motives. We salute our brave armed forces, whose unwavering bravery and dedication safeguard our sovereignty during Operation Sindoor. We also express our sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his visionary leadership and steady guidance in navigating the nation through difficult times. Let us uphold this position with integrity and commitment to our country’s values.”
Reports indicate that Indian tourists have greatly contributed to Turkey’s economy through their spending on flights, accommodation, and destination weddings. Similar feelings have emerged regarding Azerbaijan, which has adopted a pro-Pakistan stance, prompting broader calls to reevaluate trade and travel connections with countries that show anti-India sentiments.
The GJC reiterates its commitment to guiding and supporting its members in aligning their trade practices with national interests and advocates for collective action to maintain India’s sovereignty, economic integrity, and national pride.
