RJC unveils rules for the LGD sector.

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has released a detailed set of guidelines addressing ethical, social, human rights, and environmental issues related to lab-grown diamonds for its members, who number over 2,000. The 33-page document outlines responsible business practices across the jewelry and watch supply chain.

The Laboratory Grown Materials (LGMS) 2025 standard consists of 28 provisions covering areas such as legal compliance, working hours, forced labor, health and safety, hazardous substances, and grading analysis.

Members of the RJC, including De Beers, Lucara, Signet Jewellers, Leo Schachter, Cartier, and Harry Winston, are required to have their facilities certified as compliant by the RJC within one year if they handle lab-grown diamonds. Non-members are encouraged to adopt the LGMS to enhance their business practices.

Certification from LGMS offers a robust framework that assures stakeholders, shareholders, customers, and business partners that a company operates responsibly, according to the RJC based in London.
