Tiffany & Co. Purchases Historic Titanic Pocket Watch for Record Price.

Tiffany & Co. purchased an antique 18k gold pocket watch for a record-breaking $1.97 million. The clock, which was previously owned by Captain Arthur H. Rostron of the RMS Carpathia, was given to him by three important Titanic survivors as a sign of their appreciation for his courageous rescue efforts.

Mrs. John B. Thayer, Mrs. John Jacob Astor, and Mrs. George D. Widener have engraved a sincere message on the watch, which was purchased from Henry Aldridge and Son Ltd. It has the initials “AHR” on the caseback and commemorates Captain Rostron’s bravery and compassion in saving hundreds of lives during the Titanic’s sad sinking.

Tiffany & Co. jewelry and objects have been a cornerstone of global luxury since the mid-nineteenth century, and the fact that Tiffany was entrusted to help give thanks in the aftermath of the unthinkable Titanic tragedy reminds us of our humble role in our clients’ lives,” said Christopher Young, Vice President of Creative Visual Merchandising, Events, and The Tiffany Archives, Tiffany & Co.
