
Representatives from the Hong Kong commerce Development Council (HKTDC) and the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) met on December 12th at the GJEPC headquarters in Mumbai to discuss strategies to increase bilateral commerce.
Key participants at the discussion included Ms. Vian Cheung, Director, Thailand and South Asia, HKTDC; Mr. Rajesh Bhagat, Consultant South Asia, HKTDC; and Mr. Zahir Merchant, Sr. Project Manager, HKTDC. GJEPC was represented by Ms. Dolly Choudhary, Director, PMBD, and Mr. Ruzbeh Mistry, Senior Chief Manager, Exhibitions Department.
The discussions focused on the present import and export scenario between India and Hong Kong, with an emphasis on boosting bilateral economic connections. HKTDC offered an overview of their comprehensive calendar, which includes 36 trade fairs held in Hong Kong each year. HKTDC will provide further support to GJEPC for their participation in the HKTDC March Fair, including business matching services and a special lecture slot. HKTDC committed its support for creating delegations and establishing a Hong Kong Pavilion at future IIJS events.
HKTDC will promote the Indian Jewellery Park in Mumbai (IJPM) to attract Hong Kong enterprises to set up manufacturing facilities in India. HKTDC offered GJEPC help for any trade activities in those regions, leveraging its 50 offices throughout the world. HKTDC expressed interest in a study visit to India, with a focus on the gem and jewellery sector.
GJEPC advised coordinating the tour with IIJS to maximize engagement. The tour will have a clear aim. The two organisations discussed the idea of hosting a B2B matching event in Hong Kong in November 2025, with HKTDC offering assistance.
The discussion paved the way for future collaboration between GJEPC and HKTDC in the gem and jewelry sector.
