GJEPC at CII Conference: Government Policies and Industry Collaboration are Key to Growth

Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director of GJEPC, emphasized the importance of mining and manufacturing in India’s gem and jewellery business during his speech at the CII Gems and Jewellery Conference. The conference, titled “Mining & Manufacturing to Markets & Economy,” is being conducted in New Delhi today, December 6th.

Mr. Ray praised the government’s aggressive approach to developing the gem and jewellery industry, highlighting significant projects such as the Indo-UAE CEPA, Indo-Australian ECTA, and Indo-European TEPA. He emphasized GJEPC‘s critical role in implementing these policies, consequently creating new markets and increasing exports.

The GJEPC Executive Director also discussed the Council’s strong involvement with the government to ensure that the revised definition of a ‘diamond’ complies with Indian consumer laws. By spearheading negotiations with the Consumer Affairs Ministry, GJEPC ensured that the new definition is consistent with industry norms and consumer interests. Mr. Ray thanked the Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Smt. Nidhi Khare, for her assistance in finalising the new diamond language.

Mr. Ray also emphasized GJEPC‘s efforts to obtain an exemption from statutory hallmarking for jewelry exports.
