The yearly examination of scientific advancements in gemmology, instrumentation, and allied topics was conducted by the global GIA research team, which convened shortly before the Board of Governors meeting. Converge, a significant gem and jewelry conference that combines the GIA Symposium and the American Gem Society (AGS) Conclave, will examine some elements of the research from September 7–10, 2025. Converge registration will open in January 2025.

Lisa Locklear, the chair of the GIA Board of Governors, stated, “Wendy’s scientific and academic expertise and innovative geology research, along with Lisa’s business acumen, leadership of an iconic American jewelry retailer, and deep connection to the jewelry industry, bring important perspectives to our Board.”

Susan Jacques, GIA President and CEO, stated, “These two exceptional professionals and accomplished leaders join the other notable members of the GIA Board in their crucial role of strategically guiding the Institute in fulfilling our important consumer protection mission.”
