The Maharashtra state government has offered a 100% waiver of stamp duty on the initial lease of land and subsequent sub-leases within the India Jewellery Park, a GJEPC project in Mahape, Navi Mumbai.
The resolution, published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette on September 25, 2024, seeks to attract investment in the jewellery business and boost the development of the India Jewellery Park.
The government has eliminated all stamp tax on the first lease of land between the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and M/s. India Jewellery Park, as well as any future sub-lease within the park. This waiver benefits all qualified units at the India Jewellery Park.
Vipul Shah, Chairman of GJEPC, stated, “We are extremely grateful to the Government of Maharashtra for their assistance in waiving stamp duty for the India Jewellery Park in Navi Mumbai. This momentous project represents a watershed moment in the evolution of the gem and jewellery sector. The stamp duty waiver, by reducing the financial burden on enterprises, will not only boost investment but also accelerate the expansion of this industry.
“The India Jewellery Park is poised to change the jewellery production environment. It will become a cutting-edge hub for research, production, and trade, considerably increasing exports, creating jobs, and bringing global attention to India’s craftsmanship. With the government’s backing, the park will play an important part in realizing our goal of making India a global leader in the gem and jewellery business.”
The administration has indicated that this move is consistent with their aims to stimulate economic growth and create jobs in the state. By providing incentives to the jewellery industry, the government hopes to improve Maharashtra’s status as a prominent manufacturing region.
The stamp duty waiver is projected to have a considerable positive impact on Maharashtra’s jewellery industry. It is expected to attract new investments, create jobs, and increase general economic activity in the region. The India Jewellery Park is set to become a key hub for jewelry manufacturing and design in the country.
