The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) has formally reported to the UN Global Compact on the actions and projects it carried out in support of the United Nations’ worldwide mission over the two-year period beginning in September 2022.
The UN Global Compact is described as the world’s largest corporate sustainability and social responsibility initiative, with over 20,000 business participants and other stakeholders from more than 167 countries. It is a forum dedicated to encouraging commercial bodies and trade associations around the world to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies and report on their implementation. CIBJO has been a member of the UN Global Compact since November 2006.
To maintain UN Global Compact membership, linked firms and groups must produce official reports every two years called Communications on Engagement, which describe measures taken to support human and labour rights, the environment, and anti-corruption principles. The United Nations and its member organisations make these available to the public.
“We strongly support the UN Global Compact initiative, firmly believing that as a business community we have the capacity to improve the lives of all stakeholders, and the countries and communities in which they live,” stated Cavalieri, the president of CIBJO. “We encourage all members of the jewellery, gemstone and precious metals industries to join the effort, independently and through the programmes we develop and promote.”
