A brand-new service from the Gübelin Gem Lab called the Gem Passport is intended to go along with unmounted emeralds, rubies, and blue sapphires weighing up to 3.00 carats. The goal of the new service is to overcome the trade’s hesitation to pay for gemmological reports for certain stone sizes and more marketable attributes from esteemed gem labs.
According to Gübelin, the success of its deep-learning platform GemtelligenceTM, which benefits jewelry brands and merchants alike by fostering a culture of trust, makes Gem Passport possible.
The primary characteristics of a gemstone, including species and variation, country of origin, and a condensed disclosure of the treatment status, are contained in the Gem Passport. It concentrates on the gem’s salient characteristics, which are chosen by artificial intelligence. This enables a lower pricing and streamlines the testing workflow, especially the labor-intensive microscopic assessment.
“We believe that the Gem Passport is a highly attractive and affordable service for stones which up until now were not accompanied by a testing document from a globally respected lab, giving peace of mind also to brands and retailers,” says Daniel Nyfeler, Managing Director of the Gübelin Gem Lab.
