Leaders of Two Indian Diamonds Compete for AWDC Board

This is an important move in the diamond industry since it demonstrates India’s growing influence in global diamond commerce and its desire to affect international policies.

The AWDC, headquartered in Antwerp, Belgium, plays an important role in developing collaboration among industry actors and lobbying for diamond trading interests globally.

The applicants are Chirag Shah, CEO of Yashvi Diamonds, and Ravi Bhansali, Managing Director of Rosy Blue. Their candidacy exemplifies a trend of increased Indian participation in global diamond governance, reflecting the country’s growth in industry and trade.

The election, scheduled for June 17th and 18th, comes at a time when Antwerp and the diamond industry are facing challenges. The AWDC CEO left after 13 years due to G7 sanctions, and operational challenges occurred at Antwerp’s Diamond Office.

Shah and Bhansali have demonstrated willingness to face these issues. Shah stated, “These are challenging times,” highlighting the necessity for action. Bhansali went on to say that “challenging times demand proactive steps.”

If elected, Shah and Bhansali may bring fresh ideas on market dynamics and sustainability to global diamond policies. Their probable election would be a watershed moment in industrial globalization, demonstrating the power of emerging markets.

Observers are predicting how the election would affect global diamond policies and market dynamics, indicating a shift in industry leadership.
