Bruce Cleaver is appointed as the new Chair of Gemfields.

Gemfields Group Limited has announced the appointment of Bruce Cleaver as the new Chair of the Board, commencing July 1, 2024. Cleaver, known for his excellent leadership and vast experience in the gemstone mining sector, will succeed Martin Tolcher. Cleaver will also serve as an independent non-executive director and chair of the Nomination Committee.

Cleaver had previously served as Chief Executive Officer and Co-Chair of De Beers Group, where he played a key role in the diamond business. His experience mining gemstones in Africa and marketing them abroad is likely to provide important insights and guidance to Gemfields.

Cleaver stated, “Gemfields is a unique and extraordinary business, one that has taken a fragmented and fairly informal industry to considerable sophistication as the first consistent supplier of significant quantities of colored gemstones in a responsible and transparent manner.” The coloured gemstone business has long before the emergence of lab-grown rivals, with lab-grown rubies dating back over 120 years.”
