GJEPC conducted a webinar on “How to Manage Your Logistics in the Middle East Market” on May 15th, with the goal of providing exporters with useful insights into the UAE’s rising role as a global leader in secure logistics, particularly for valuables such as diamonds, gold, and luxury products.
In a session moderated by Ashish Sakhardande, Head – IJEX, India Jewellery Expo, guest speaker Girish Mathrani, Business Development Manager at Transguard, discussed Dubai’s strong infrastructure and strategic advantages, as well as the company’s role as logistics partner for GJEPC‘s India Jewellery Exposition Centre (IJEX) in Dubai’s Gold Souk.
The UAE is a prominent gold trading hub, with gold exports accounting for AED 218.3 billion of non-oil international trade in H1 2023. Dubai also leads in rough diamond commerce, with the combined value of rough and polished diamonds estimated to be $38.3 billion in 2023. India’s bilateral trade with the UAE totaled $85 billion in 2022-23, with gems and jewellery accounting for $20.56 billion.
Mathrani described Transguard‘s role in providing secure logistics services for high-value commodities, such as import/export customs clearance, air freight forwarding, secure storage and transportation, insurance, and international show management.
IJEX serves as an entry point for Indian gem and jewellery trade into the MENA area. Transguard manages IJEX, which provides duty suspension for marketing purposes and supports re-exports to non-GCC nations, he noted.
Mathrani stated that under Transguard arrangements, cargoes cleared for Temporary Admission (duty suspension) can stay in the UAE for up to 165 days from the date of entry. Transguard is working closely with the relevant authorities in the UAE to develop a solution for the sale of products under Temporary Admission, which will be disclosed in due course, he added.
