On December 2, 2024, Surat-based diamantaire and Rajya Sabha MP Govind Dholakia presented Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a one-of-a-kind natural diamond masterpiece, the “Navbharat Ratna” as a symbol of national pride. This 2.12-carat diamond, shaped like India, represents the nation’s unity, splendor, and eternal energy.
The diamond, cut and polished by craftsmen at Shree Ramkrishna Exports (SRK), took over 3,700 minutes to complete. Rajeshbhai Kachadiya, an SRK veteran with 14 years of expertise, committed 40 hours to sculpting India’s map, comparing his meticulous effort to that of a soldier. Vishalbhai Italiya, a six-year SRK veteran, polished the girdle for 22 hours before adding the finishing touches.
Govind Dholakia, Founder-Chairman Emeritus of SRK, stated, “The Navbharat Ratna’s unique feature is that the map of India is laser cut from a single natural diamond.” The younger generation in my family believes that the Prime Minister is a national treasure, therefore we chose to manufacture and present him with this 2.12-carat gem as a token of our thanks. He represents our country, thus what could be better for him than to represent India? This diamond cannot be valued since it represents India, which makes it priceless. I am delighted that the Prime Minister appreciated my team’s abilities, as these artisans are India’s future.
Surat, the world’s diamond capital, processes 90% of all diamonds, demonstrating the ability of Indian artisans. This gift demonstrates the region’s quality and dedication to preserving the country’s legacy through workmanship.
