Fabergé X Gemfields Malaika Egg Priced at $1.2 Million

Renowned jeweller Fabergé has collaborated with Gemfields to create the one-of-a-kind Fabergé x Gemfields Malaika Egg, with $100,000 of the proceeds going to the Gemfields Foundation, the Gemfields Group‘s charitable arm, to support community projects that alleviate poverty in Mozambique.

‘Malaika’ means ‘angel’ in Swahili, the language spoken in Mozambique, where the rubies in this egg were discovered at the Montepuez mine. The rubies are set in 18k rose gold, along with white and brown diamonds, pink sapphires, amethysts, and pearls. The Malaika Egg was created by a small team of craftspeople in England, using traditional methods.

The egg’s exterior is a tribute to Mozambican rubies, with a symphony of red gems highlighted by other valuable gemstones and guilloché enamel in a design mimicking the feathers on angel wings. A closer look reveals meticulously designed gaps in the design, allowing a peek of a Fabergé surprise hidden within.

The egg is made with 4,312 round brilliant-cut white diamonds and 252 round brilliant-cut brown diamonds, which highlight the colors of the 308 rubies. These colors are enhanced with 421 round pink sapphires and 61 amethysts, all set in 18k rose gold.

“Colour is in Fabergé’s DNA and has always played an important role in our designs. We prefer to ‘paint’ our masterpieces with the best coloured gemstones, and the Fabergé x Gemfields Malaika Egg is a monument to this creative flair,” stated Antony Lindsay, CEO of Fabergé.

The Fabergé x Gemfields Malaika Egg retails for $1,200,000/£960,000, which includes a $100,000 donation to the Gemfields Foundation.
