Alrosa’s Severalmaz to Halt Mining Operations for Three Months

Russian diamond mining company Alrosa will temporarily suspend mining activities at its subsidiary, Severalmaz, for around three months starting 1 July 2026 as part of planned operational measures.

The temporary shutdown will impact mining operations at the Lomonosov diamond deposit in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, one of Europe’s largest diamond deposits. During this period, ore processing and other support functions will continue, enabling the company to process previously extracted ore while scheduled maintenance and operational work are carried out at the mine.

Alrosa stated that the suspension is a planned initiative and will not affect its overall production targets. The company has built up adequate ore reserves to ensure the processing plant continues to operate without interruption throughout the three-month shutdown.

Majority-owned by Alrosa, Severalmaz operates the Lomonosov diamond deposit, where the processing facility has an annual capacity of up to 4 million tonnes of ore. The company remains one of Russia’s leading diamond producers outside the Yakutia region.
