Dr. Usha Balakrishnan to Explore Golconda’s Diamond Heritage at World Diamond Congress

Acclaimed jewellery historian and author Dr. Usha Balakrishnan will deliver a special presentation titled “Golconda and Ancient Diamonds – A Historical Perspective” at the 41st World Diamond Congress on 15 July 2026.
The lecture will delve into India’s status as the world’s only known source of diamonds for almost two millennia and highlight the rich legacy of Golconda, renowned for yielding some of the most extraordinary diamonds in history.
The session, moderated by luxury journalist and author Richa Goyal Sikri, will draw upon ancient literature, travellers’ accounts, and legendary gemstones to distinguish historical facts from myths. It will also examine long-debated topics surrounding iconic gems such as the Orlov Diamond and the historical significance of the Golconda name.
Organised by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association, the 41st World Diamond Congress will take place from 12–15 July at the PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay alongside the Singapore International Jewelry Expo. The congress will bring together leading figures from the global diamond and jewellery industry to discuss major trends and developments influencing the sector.
