GJEPC Welcomes New Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) recently met Shri Brij Bhushan Gupta following his appointment as Chief Commissioner of Customs, Mumbai Zone–III. The delegation included Shri Kirit Bhansali, Chairman; Shri Shaunak Parikh, Vice Chairman; and Shri Mithilesh Pandey, Senior Director, who formally welcomed Shri Gupta and discussed key industry matters.

During the meeting, Shri Bhansali highlighted operational issues affecting trade efficiency and requested continued support from Customs for smoother functioning. Major concerns raised included better utilisation of the Special Notified Zone (SNZ) facilities at Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) during non-SNZ periods, as well as delays in clearing re-import consignments sent overseas for certification, especially in cases involving measurement discrepancies.

GJEPC also presented a detailed representation on wider industry concerns for the Chief Commissioner’s review. The discussion focused on streamlining regulatory procedures in line with industry needs to maintain trade growth and ease cross-border business operations.
