CIBJO Opens Second Consultation on Blue List to Strengthen Supply Chain Terminology

CIBJO has initiated a second round of public consultation on its “Blue List” lexicon, inviting broader industry input on standardised terminology for responsible jewellery supply chains.
Officially titled The Responsible Jewellery Supply Chain Lexicon, the Blue List aims to create a unified set of definitions for terms related to sustainability and responsible sourcing, particularly in jewellery marketing. The initiative is intended to ensure that such claims remain clear, credible, and consistently understood by both industry stakeholders and consumers.
The renewed consultation follows the first review phase conducted between May and September 2025, which generated several recommendations and led to targeted revisions of the original draft. While most of the proposed terminology received general acceptance, certain areas required further refinement, resulting in the updated version now released for review.
The consultation process will remain open until 12 June 2026. CIBJO is encouraging participation from a wide range of industry stakeholders as well as external experts, reflecting its commitment to achieving broad consensus before the lexicon is finalised.
Gaetano Cavalieri, President of CIBJO, who co-chairs the committee alongside Feriel Zerouki, President of the World Diamond Council, stated, “Our objective is to develop a lexicon of terms that can be practically implemented and understood globally, in the most transparent and inclusive manner possible.
“We had initially hoped that one round of public consultation would be enough. However, while nearly all of the terminology and definitions in the original draft were widely accepted, several points raised during the process were considered important to address, resulting in a few amendments to the proposed text. In the same spirit of openness, we are now beginning the second round to gather public views on these changes.”
