GJEPC, in Partnership with GIA, Conducts Training Programme for Newly Appointed Customs Officers

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), in association with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), organised a specialised training programme for newly appointed Customs Officers. The initiative was conducted by GIA at no cost, as part of its continued efforts to share knowledge with industry stakeholders and government authorities.
Held from 2nd March to 9th March 2026, the programme focused on enhancing practical skills and technical understanding of cut and polished diamonds, along with coloured gemstones. It aimed to equip Customs Officers with essential insights into identification techniques, industry processes, and trade practices within the gem and jewellery sector.
A total of 16 Customs Officers took part in the training, which concluded successfully on 9th March 2026.
As part of the programme, Mr. Mithlesh Pandey, Senior Director at GJEPC, along with Mr. Siddhesh Mohite, conducted a dedicated session on the Kimberley Process (KP). The session highlighted the regulatory framework and procedures governing the import and export of rough diamonds, as well as KP’s role in ensuring traceability and promoting responsible trade practices in the global diamond industry.
