De Beers and Sotheby’s reveal an exceptional 28.88-carat Jwaneng diamond.

De Beers Group and Sotheby’s have introduced an extraordinary 28.88-carat internally flawless diamond sourced from Botswana’s renowned Jwaneng mine, marking its debut ahead of a forthcoming auction.

Named the Jwaneng 28.88, the diamond was unveiled at Maison Assouline in London during an exclusive event attended by industry insiders. Celebrated as a “masterpiece of nature and craftsmanship,” the stone exemplifies the exceptional standards associated with the Jwaneng mine, one of the richest diamond deposits globally.

Graded D-colour—the highest possible rating—the diamond also belongs to the rare Type IIa category, denoting the purest form of natural diamonds. It was meticulously cut from a 114.83-carat rough discovered at the Debswana-operated Jwaneng mine in Botswana.

This unveiling is part of an ongoing collaboration between De Beers and Sotheby’s, with the gem set to take center stage at Sotheby’s High Jewellery sale in Hong Kong on April 23, 2026. Owing to its remarkable size, clarity, and origin, the diamond is anticipated to draw strong interest from collectors.

The London showcase also doubled as a cultural presentation, highlighting the legacy of diamonds through curated artworks and archival pieces that explore their enduring connection with art and design.
