GJEPC and GIA Host Advanced Gemmology Training for Customs Officials

As part of the ongoing capacity-building programme for newly appointed officers at Mumbai’s Precious Cargo Customs Clearance Centre (PCCCC), the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), a global leader in gemmological education, conducted a week-long specialised training session.
Held across September and October 2025, the programme trained approximately 45 Customs officers. Organised by GJEPC on a pro bono basis under its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GIA, the initiative aimed to strengthen officers’ knowledge of gemmological fundamentals and refine their skills in handling import and export procedures related to the gem and jewellery industry.
Additionally, GJEPC arranged a dedicated session on the Kimberley Process (KP) Certification Scheme, providing participants with insights into the international framework governing the trade of rough diamonds.
