The 11th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, hosted by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), commences today at AsiaWorld-Expo and will continue for five days, providing buyers with an opportunity to explore a variety of diamonds, gemstones, and pearls. The opening ceremony this afternoon featured Algernon Yau, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, as the Guest of Honour. The 41st Hong Kong International Jewellery Show is scheduled to take place from March 4 to 8 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) in Wan Chai.

Sophia Chong, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, remarked, “The dual jewellery shows are highly regarded among global exhibitors. This year, the events have drawn around 4,000 exhibitors from over 40 countries and regions, with nearly 70% originating from outside Hong Kong. This underscores Hong Kong’s allure on the global stage and reinforces its reputation as a premier convention and exhibition hub. The twin shows offer a comprehensive jewellery sourcing platform for the international market, featuring raw materials like loose diamonds, coloured diamonds, gemstones, and pearls, while also displaying exquisite finished jewellery pieces, bespoke high-end designs, designer brands, mounting components, packaging solutions, and identification tools and technology. The wide variety of products is effective in attracting professional buyers from across the globe.”

Winston Chow, Chairman of the HKTDC Jewellery Advisory Committee, stated: “This year’s twin jewellery shows, themed ‘Symphony of Sparkles’, maintain the successful ‘two shows, two venues’ format, providing a broad selection of premium raw materials and jewellery items. They also include numerous jewellery parades, seminars, and forums aimed at both buyers and exhibitors to create new opportunities in a highly competitive marketplace.”

The International Jewellery Show highlights the newest trends in gold inlay jewellery.

The twin exhibitions have maintained an awareness of market developments. As global gold prices reach new records, the gold jewellery sector is taking the chance to explore fresh opportunities, with creative and stylish gold inlay jewellery, as well as designs that merge traditional artistry with cultural influences, injecting new energy into the market. This year’s International Jewellery Show features the Gold Jewellery area, displaying distinctive designs and elegantly crafted gold jewellery. The event has also welcomed Winston Chow, Director and Deputy General Manager of Chow Sang Sang Holdings International Ltd, and Dato’ Chiah Hock Yew, President of the Federation of Goldsmiths and Jewellers Association of Malaysia, to share their insights on the evolution of the gold jewellery market in Greater China and Malaysia.

The trend towards fashionable yet affordable luxury jewellery is on the rise and is prominently showcased at the International Jewellery Show. Another promising market to explore is men’s jewellery, with nearly 200 exhibitors presenting related products at this year’s event. A seminar led by award-winning jewellery designer and Founder of AMEDEO by R.F.M.A.S., Amedeo Scognamiglio, will provide updates on affordable luxury and men’s jewellery.

Jewellery technology is also a key highlight at the exhibition, with Hong Kong-based Firstpower Machinery Limited (Booth: CEC 5F-C22) demonstrating an aerobic ultra-fast 3D printer that enhances casting efficiency through rapid printing for mass customisation. Italian exhibitor Doma Automation Srl (Booth: CEC 5F-C19) is showcasing machinery that generates 360° animations to help the industry maximize e-commerce opportunities.

The jewellery industry is increasingly focusing on sustainable development, with numerous exhibitors across both shows receiving certification from the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) and committing to sustainable practices. Some exhibitors at the Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show have implemented eco-friendly cutting methods to achieve zero emissions. Additionally, several participants at the International Jewellery Show are utilizing recycled metals to minimize raw material usage and adopting environmentally friendly technologies and processes, such as advanced casting and polishing equipment to lower waste and energy consumption. A seminar will be conducted during the event to examine how ESG and ISO jewellery certifications can support the industry’s sustainable development, featuring speakers like Edward Johnson, Corporate Responsibility Director at the British company GEMFIELDS.

More than 30 events, including industry seminars, jewellery showcases, networking cocktails, and other gatherings, will be available for attendees of the twin shows, emphasizing trends in identification methodologies, jewellery technology, sustainability, and more.

This year, the dual jewellery shows continue to implement the Exhibition+ hybrid format of online and offline engagement, allowing businesses to transition negotiations from physical exhibitions to digital platforms. The AI-driven Click2Match will facilitate online business connections for both exhibitors and buyers, while onsite attendees can utilize Scan2Match to scan the QR codes of exhibitors, enabling discussions to continue online during or after the event. Buyers can also increase efficiency by completing registration and verification steps ahead of time through the HKTDC Marketplace App and the official websites of both fairs.

Complimentary shuttle buses have been scheduled between AsiaWorld-Expo and the city, including the HKCEC, to assist buyers in attending the two exhibitions. Additionally, this year has seen the implementation of special measures to accommodate Muslim attendees of the shows. These measures include providing dedicated prayer rooms at both exhibition sites, offering shuttle services to and from local mosques, compiling a list of hotels and restaurants catering to Muslim patrons, and coordinating guided tours in partnership with the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
