The Membership Department of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)<\/a> organised an interactive session, \u201cChaupal \u2013 3Es: Educate, Empower and Export,\u201d<\/strong> for members of the Zaveri Bazar jewellery community. The initiative aimed to familiarise manufacturers, traders and aspiring exporters with the opportunities, resources and support available within India\u2019s export ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The session was led by Mithilesh Pandey, Sr. Director, GJEPC<\/a><\/strong>, who highlighted the Council\u2019s role in bridging the industry with the Government, facilitating exporters, creating opportunities for international market access and strengthening the global competitiveness of India\u2019s gem and jewellery sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chaupal was held in line with the BCG-supported \u201cExport Roadmap for $100 Billion Gems & Jewellery Exports by 2040\u201d<\/strong> and the Exim Bank\u2013GJEPC report, \u201cMaking Clusters Exportable.\u201d<\/strong> Zaveri Bazar is one of the 17 high-potential clusters<\/strong> identified under this export-focused strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Three-Pronged Approach to Growth<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pandey presented a three-pronged roadmap for strengthening the cluster, beginning with \u201cMembership to Market.\u201d<\/strong> Participants were briefed on the advantages of GJEPC membership, including RCMC registration, participation in international exhibitions, policy advocacy, the Parichay Card for artisans and handholding assistance for first-time exporters.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major focus of the session was the BCG\u2019s five-pillar framework<\/strong> designed to enhance India\u2019s export competitiveness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Global Market Diversification:<\/strong> Expanding focus on studded, lightweight and designer jewellery categories.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Cluster Scale-up & Competitiveness:<\/strong> Developing Common Facility Centres, design laboratories and adopting upgraded technologies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ease of Doing Business:<\/strong> Streamlining EXIM procedures through measures such as the Risk Management System and AI-enabled customs appraisal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Brand India:<\/strong> Promoting initiatives such as \u201cCrafted by India\u201d and leveraging the IJEX platform for year-round global buyer engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Affordable Export Finance:<\/strong> Providing access to concessional credit, interest subvention and ECGC support for MSMEs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Together, these pillars represent a broader transition from simply promoting exports to creating the infrastructure, capabilities, market access and financial ecosystem<\/strong> required for Indian jewellery clusters to compete effectively in international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Government Initiatives Supporting Exporters<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The session also highlighted three Government initiatives particularly relevant to Zaveri Bazar businesses. Under Districts as Export Hubs (DEH)<\/strong>, Mumbai has been identified as a priority district. Niryat Disha<\/strong> provides orientation and training on exports and documentation, while Niryat Protsahan<\/strong> offers mentorship and handholding support to new exporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Participants also received insights into the importance of GJEPC membership and RCMC, MSME schemes, Government support programmes, district-level export opportunities and IJEX<\/strong> as a platform for connecting Indian jewellery exporters with international buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Focus on Export Readiness<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    A practical aspect of the Chaupal was its emphasis on preparing businesses to enter international markets. Members were introduced to the handholding assistance available through the Membership\/NSME Department<\/strong>, along with the key steps involved in transitioning from domestic business to exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The session further stressed the importance of completing essential export documentation, including Importer Exporter Code (IEC), ICEGATE registration, an Authorised Dealer (AD) bank account and Customs KYC<\/strong>\u2014all critical requirements for businesses preparing to undertake international trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The interactive session enabled Zaveri Bazar members to gain a clearer understanding of the export ecosystem, Government schemes and the various support mechanisms available to help businesses expand beyond India\u2019s domestic market.
