GIA to Introduce Updated Coloured Stone Reports<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Gemological Institute of America (GIA)<\/a> will roll out redesigned coloured stone reports and expanded services starting 1st January 2026. The updated reports will feature a more polished layout aimed at improving storytelling and clarity, along with broader origin-determination offerings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These enhanced reports will present key gemmological details in a more accessible way, helping both the trade and consumers better understand the distinctive attributes that define each gemstone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GIA<\/a> will extend its origin-determination services to include opal, peridot and demantoid garnet. These additions join the current origin services for alexandrite, emerald, Para\u00edba tourmaline, red spinel, ruby, sapphire, and the recently introduced origin analysis for untreated jadeite jade and omphacite jade from Myanmar (Burma) or Guatemala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shane McClure, Global Director of Colored Stone Services, noted that the expanded offerings are backed by GIA<\/a>\u2019s extensive research and a robust reference collection of 32,000 samples gathered by its field gemmologists. He emphasised that the Institute\u2019s 75+ years of coloured stone reporting and its long-standing research foundation ensure authoritative and reliable results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GIA<\/a> will also update weight categories and associated fees for coloured stone submissions. Full details will be available on GIA.edu<\/a> on 1st January 2026, and the revised structure will apply to all items submitted from that date onwards, which will receive the new-look reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
