One of Faberg\u00e9\u2019s<\/a> most celebrated creations, the Winter Egg<\/a><\/strong>, is set to go under the hammer at Christie\u2019s London<\/strong> on December 2<\/strong>, with estimates exceeding \u00a320 million (approx. $40.9 million AUD)<\/strong>. This exquisite piece, commissioned by Emperor Nicholas II of Russia<\/strong> as a gift to his mother, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna<\/strong>, is adorned with 1,660 diamonds<\/strong> and showcases Faberg\u00e9\u2019s legendary craftsmanship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Designed by Alma Theresia Pihl<\/strong>, one of only two female artists to work for Faberg\u00e9<\/a>, the egg features a platinum, double-handled trellis basket embellished with carved quartz flowers and rose-cut diamonds \u2014 a testament to both technical mastery and artistic vision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Winter Egg is already a record-setter, having twice achieved world-record auction prices for a Faberg\u00e9<\/a> work: first in 1994<\/strong> at Christie\u2019s Geneva, fetching $13.95 million AUD<\/strong>, and again in 2002<\/strong> at Christie\u2019s New York, selling for $14.72 million AUD<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire one of Faberg\u00e9\u2019s<\/a> most important creations. The Winter Egg stands among the most opulent and artistically inventive Imperial Easter eggs ever made.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The upcoming sale will also feature nearly 50 other rare Faberg\u00e9<\/a> pieces<\/strong>, including hardstone sculptures, objets de vertu, animals, and fine furniture<\/strong>, giving collectors a rare glimpse into the world of Imperial Russian artistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1885 and 1916<\/strong>, Faberg\u00e9<\/a> created 50 Imperial Easter Eggs<\/strong>, of which 43<\/strong> are known to survive today \u2014 most housed in museum collections. Only seven<\/strong>, including the Winter Egg, remain in private hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
