GJC Applauds Maharashtra Government\u2019s Landmark Move to Establish State-Level \u2018Dakshata Committee\u2019 for Jewellers\u2019 Security<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC)<\/a><\/strong>, which represents over six lakh jewellers nationwide, has welcomed the Maharashtra Government\u2019s landmark move to set up a state-level \u2018Dakshata Committee\u2019 (Vigilance Committee)<\/strong> aimed at ensuring jewellers\u2019 safety and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jewellers have long faced harassment during theft and robbery investigations involving gold and silver, with some cases even leading to tragic loss of life. Recognising these concerns, the Maharashtra Government issued a Home Department circular on March 14, 2024, directing police officers on handling cases under BNS 317 (formerly Section 411 IPC)<\/strong> and recommending the creation of a special Dakshata Committee.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newly established Vigilance Committee includes representatives from all 36 districts of Maharashtra. In addition, district-level committees<\/strong> will soon be formed with GJC\u2019s support to strengthen collaboration between the government and trade associations. The initiative aims to provide a secure and trustworthy framework that safeguards jewellers while supporting fair business practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GJC extended its gratitude to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis<\/strong> for this progressive step and acknowledged the dedicated contributions of Minister of State for Home Affairs Pankaj Bhoyar<\/strong> and MLC Chitra Wagh<\/strong> in bringing this initiative to fruition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GJC Chairman Rajesh Rokde<\/a><\/strong> described the move as a \u201chistoric milestone\u201d for Maharashtra\u2019s jewellery sector, highlighting the government\u2019s resolve to provide a safe environment for trade. He expressed appreciation to the leaders involved, congratulated district representatives, and urged jewellers across India to initiate similar measures in their states to establish a strong nationwide safety framework. He reaffirmed GJC\u2019s commitment to working closely with the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The jewellery industry has faced persistent security concerns over the years. The recent decision by the Maharashtra Government is a groundbreaking move, showcasing its awareness and dedication to protecting jewellers. This step will boost the confidence of jewellers. We urge our members across India to collaborate with their local state governments to form similar committees, aiming to establish a secure environment for jewellery businesses throughout the country.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
