At the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania, five years after its inception, the Twiga partnership between Barrick Mining Corporation<\/a> and the Tanzanian government remains a transformative force in the country\u2019s mining industry. The partnership is credited with delivering mutual value, operational excellence, and sustained investment in Tanzania\u2019s long-term development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a recent media briefing, Barrick\u2019s president and CEO Mark Bristow<\/a> highlighted that Twiga had established a responsible and sustainable framework for mineral development in Tanzania. \u201cThe purpose of Twiga went far beyond addressing historical issues. It was about unlocking Tanzania\u2019s gold potential in a way that ensures equitable benefits and creates lasting value for everyone involved. Five years later, Barrick<\/a> is not only the largest economic contributor in the sector but has also been nationally recognized for its achievements in safety, local sourcing, education, and infrastructure,\u201d Bristow stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Barrick<\/a> assumed operational control in 2019, it has injected $4.79 billion into Tanzania\u2019s economy, including $558 million in just the first half of 2025. Local procurement remains a key focus, with over 90% of goods and services sourced from Tanzanian businesses, most of which are locally owned. Additionally, 96% of the company\u2019s workforce is Tanzanian, with nearly half coming from communities surrounding the mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
