Consequently, the duty will no longer be enforced on emeralds extracted by Kagem Mining Limited, which is predominantly owned (75%) by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemfieldsgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gemfields<\/a> and partly owned (25%) by Zambia\u2019s Industrial Development Corporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gemfieldsgroup.com\/board-of-directors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sean Gilbertson, the CEO of Gemfields<\/a>, commended the Zambian government&#8217;s decision, saying: \u201cWe extend our heartfelt gratitude to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hakainde_Hichilema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">President Hakainde Hichilema\u2019s<\/a> administration for their swift and commendable action in addressing the 15% export duty on precious gemstones. Over the past 16 years, the Zambian emerald sector has experienced remarkable growth and is currently \u2013 by a significant margin \u2013 the leading exporter of emeralds globally.
